History

Gillies Funeral Home & Cremation Services has been serving Lynden area families for years. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come.

Gillies Undertaking Company was first established in Sumas by George and John C. Gillies in connection with their lumber, hardware and furniture store. In the 1920's they built a new building and the business continued under the same name.

  • 1946 – The Gillies family purchased a funeral business owned by F.E. Knapp and son, Brad Knapp, at 319 W. Front Street in Lynden, which was combined into one location at 202 Front Street in Lynden.
  • 1958-1959 – Fred Veroske owned and operated both Gillies Funeral Home locations – Sumas and Lynden.
  • 1967 – Dale King became owner operator of Gillies Funeral Home and sold the funeral home building in Sumas.
